Hangxiety

Research suggests that hangxiety is a state, common especially in women who have a preference for white wine, which can emerge after drinking more alcohol than their body can handle. It's more than just a hangover it can be a pounding headache linked to memories of the previous night's indulgence which causes an absolute feeling of dread and despair. Experts have examined this phenomenon and it's unclear if it is something about the wine itself that brings on such a fragile emotional state or something more complex, reflecting the psychological wellbeing of the person who has been drinking. Simply put, it is a mixture of 'hangover' and 'anxiety'. The research was carried out by David Nutt, a professor at neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London.

While alcohol in the short term boosts feel good hormones, increasing levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. When levels drop that's when hangxiety can kick in. The remedy is the same as for a standard hangover. Keep hydrated, eat and get plenty of rest plus banish the thoughts of what might or might not have happened the previous night.
